TESTIMONIALS
The range of experiences, ages, and both personal and professional perspectives among our group’s members, made meetings eat-with-a-fork meaty. They also made for freeing interaction marked by honesty, indignation, edification, and just wicked wit.
In TTT I have learned to listen more. The conversations we have are so intentional and the subjects so impactful that listening, reflecting and empathizing is really necessary. I listen more, think more, and I really feel often I am more there to learn.
In total transparency, I was a bit skeptical, but my concerns eased once I realized I could be my authentic self. In my very first meeting, I observed people eating and drinking all while laughing and having deep meaningful dialogue.
I have never been a part of an experience so thoughtfully crafted and protected and that set the stage for the most authentic sharing.
TTT has provided a platform like no other where people from different ethnic backgrounds, religions, and financial classes get to come to a table to bare their truths about life, liberty, and social injustices. Personally, I am grateful to be given the opportunity for my voice to be heard on issues that affect me as a black woman, my culture, and my life for better or worse.
Touchy Topics Tuesday has become one of my better habits. I find myself scheduling all other activities around my time in this space because it is that important to me. During my time here, I’ve made friends with people I normally wouldn’t look to be friends with. I can honestly say friends because we’ve shared honest, intimate thoughts with each other from the deepest parts of our psyche and were able to walk away with a sincere respect for one another’s differences.
Throughout my experience, I formed friendships and bonds with folks I never would have met and had important conversations that stretched my capacity for understanding and empathy. I realized the limitations I had placed on relationships and the walls I needed to break down.
By listening to the stories of others that emerged during our discussions, I found myself examining and re-thinking assumptions I didn’t even know I had when we started… The conversations themselves are often emotionally difficult and linger long after the end of the session, but they are a realistic way to get to lasting positive change.
